BGSU student urges city to take action to develop affordable action

I am writing to address an issue that has been affecting many residents in Bowling Green—the growing need for affordable housing. As our community continues to grow and evolve, it is becoming increasingly difficult for low- and moderate-income families to find safe, stable, and affordable housing options.

The rising cost of rent and limited availability of affordable housing are placing a significant burden on many families, particularly those with children, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities. For many residents, finding a suitable home that fits their budget has become an insurmountable challenge.

This issue not only impacts the daily lives of our citizens, but it also has broader implications for the social and economic health of our community. Access to affordable housing is closely tied to other important factors such as education, healthcare, and employment. When families struggle to secure affordable housing, they are more likely to face disruptions in these areas, contributing to cycles of poverty and instability.

I urge you to consider measures that can help address this issue. Possible actions could include:

  • Increased funding for affordable housing projects within Bowling Green.
  • Incentives for developers to build affordable units, such as tax credits or grants.
  • Advocating for state and federal housing assistance programs that can provide additional resources to support our community.

Affordable housing is a fundamental need, and I believe that Bowling Green can take meaningful steps to ensure that everyone in our community has access to a safe and affordable place to live. Thank you for your attention to this pressing issue, and I look forward to hearing about any efforts the city is making to address the housing needs of our residents.
