BG Police arrest man for domestic violence after young child calls to report his mom was being hurt

A young child called Bowling Green Police Sunday around 9 p.m. to report his mother was being assaulted. The dispatcher could hear yelling in the background.

When police arrived on the scene in the 1000 block of Fairview Avenue, the child followed directions by the dispatcher to let the first officer in the locked outer door of the apartment building. The child led the officer upstairs to his apartment, and the officer instructed the child to hide in the laundry room until another officer got there to help him.

When the officer entered the apartment he heard loud yelling and crying. A woman came out of the bathroom and ran outside. She reportedly had redness and visible thumb prints on her neck, and visible bruising on both arms.

Police arrested David Lancaster, 28, of Bowling Green, charging him with domestic violence and strangulation. He was taken to Wood County Jail.

The woman told police that Lancaster, her boyfriend, had accused her of talking to someone else on her cell phone, and took her phone. She reportedly said he elbowed her in the stomach, kicked her, strangled her twice, then dragged her into the bathroom where he strangled her a third time.

The woman told police that he apologized to her after looking at her phone and finding no communication with someone else.

Lancaster reportedly told police that it was just a verbal argument, and said that women are emotional and cry frequently – especially when they are losing an argument. He also reportedly told the officers that when in a relationship with someone, he should be able to look at her phone communications.
