A 15-year-old Bowling Green boy reportedly led police on a high-speed chase, before being caught as he fled on foot early Monday morning.
A BG Police officer noticed a vehicle with no headlights, traveling northbound on North Main Street around 4:40 a.m. The officer attempted a traffic stop on North Main near Industrial Parkway, when the vehicle reportedly took off at a high rate of speed, then ran the red light at Newton Road.
Neighboring law enforcement agencies were notified as the car continued north on Ohio 25, at speeds reaching 115 mph. The car turned west on Roachton Road, in Perrysburg Township. As the driver attempted the roundabout at Roachton and Hull Prairie roads, he struck a curb, went into a field, then fled northbound on foot. He was apprehended, and alcohol was found in the car.
The boy reportedly told police the car he was driving was his mom’s, and she had no idea he was driving it. He was taken to Wood County Hospital for medical clearance before being taken to Wood County Juvenile Detention Center.
He was charged with failure to comply, underage possession of alcohol, failure to follow traffic control devices, speeding, operating a vehicle without a valid operator’s license, and failure to control.
