BGHS Day of Service honors legacy of alumnus Kapil Melkote

The Bowling Green High School Day of Service honors the legacy of a beloved alumnus, Kapil Melkote, whose life was defined by compassion, community, and a commitment to serving others. Kapil loved BG and believed that every student can contribute with their unique abilities to make our school and community stronger.

Twenty-six BGHS students from two high school clubs—Model UN and the Drama Club—are volunteering from 1-3 p.m. today, (Friday, Oct. 23). Community partners facilitating the service work are:

  • Wood County Public Library
  • Wood County Senior Center
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • BG Parks and Recreation
  • BG City Administration
  • BGHS

Through meaningful acts of service, students will come together to give back to the community that has shaped them, while discovering the power each individual has to make a difference.

Led by Drama Club adviser Dr. Jo Beth Gonzalez and Model U.N. adviser Mary Kern, the mission of the Day of Service is to inspire a lasting spirit of service—encouraging students to lead with kindness, serve with purpose, and carry forward a legacy of giving that strengthens the community and inspires others. Dylan Stretchbery, a BGHS alumnus and classmate of Kapil’s, will be present to talk about Kapil and his legacy.
