Daniel ‘Thomas’ Guyer

Daniel “Thomas” Guyer, 88, of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. Born on November 2, 1938, in Weston, Ohio, he was the son of the late Daniel and Hazel (La Plante) Guyer.

Tom was a graduate of Westwood High School. Following graduation, he began his career with Northern Telephone as a facility locator. The company later became GTE and eventually Verizon, where he continued his dedicated service until his retirement in 1993.

On October 10, 1990, Tom married Linda Lu Metcalf, who survives him in Bowling Green. Together, they shared a love of snowmobiling in Canada.

Tom had many hobbies and interests that brought him joy throughout his life. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, snowmobiling in Canada and northern Michigan, fishing, and boating. His love of snowmobiling was more than just a hobby; it became a way to serve others during one of Ohio’s most memorable winter storms. During the Blizzard of 1978, Tom courageously used his snowmobile to travel to those in need, delivering medications and other essential supplies to people who were unable to get out.

Tom was a dedicated and familiar face at the Bowling Green Tractor Pull, where he served as a “Blue Shirt” from 1968 through 2026. His many years of involvement reflected his lasting passion for the event and the community surrounding it. In August 2026, he was honored with induction into the Bowling Green Tractor Pull Hall of Fame.

He was also a proud member of the Mercury Club and the owner of a 1955 Mercury Montclair, a car that reflected his appreciation for classic automobiles. A true sports enthusiast, Tom loved following basketball, baseball, football, and NASCAR. Whether cheering on his favorite teams or watching a race, he always enjoyed the excitement and competition of the sporting world.

Above all, Tom will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Along with his wife Linda, Tom is survived by his children Debbie Merritt of Bowling Green, Ohio, Dennis (Lou Ann) Guyer of Pemberville, Ohio, step-children Ben (Ann) Ireland of Rossford, Ohio, Aaron (Trish) Ireland of Hamilton, Ohio, grandchildren Wesley (Cassie), Amanda (D.J.), Leslie, Erica, step-grandchildren Ryan (Alex), Jacob (Makenzie), Riley, Abby and 8 great-grandchildren.

Along with Tom’s parents he was preceded in death by his sister Linda Rigby.
