From WOOD COUNTY PLAYS
Wood County Plays, Miracle League of Northwest Ohio, the city of Northwood, and community partners will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Northwood Inclusive Playground at Brentwood Park on Monday, June 8, at 3 p.m.
The ceremony will take place at the future playground site off the Tracy Road entrance to Brentwood Park, adjacent to the Northwood fire station.
The Northwood Inclusive Playground will provide an accessible and inclusive space designed for children of all abilities to play together. Planned features include a playground zip line, large-shaded swings, a dedicated play area for children ages 2 – 5, and the region’s first wheelchair-accessible playground trampolines.
“Building play spaces that are intentionally designed for everyone benefits the entire community,” said Ryan Wichman, president of Wood County Plays. “We continue to be humbled by the response of donors and community members who join us in the mission to ensure all kids of all abilities can play together side by side.”
The project marks the fourth community-scale playground initiative that Wood County Plays has led as the organization continues its mission to expand inclusive recreational opportunities throughout Wood County. The Perrysburg Inclusive Playground presented by Mercy Health was opened in 2021, the RallyCap Sports Inclusive Playground in Bowling Green opened in 2022, and the build was completed on the Fostoria Inclusive Playground with an opening date to be determined.
A community, volunteer-build for the Northwood Inclusive Playground is planned for later this summer, with an anticipated opening in September or October.
Community members are encouraged to attend the groundbreaking ceremony and celebrate the beginning of the project with local leaders, partner organizations, and supporters.
