Exchange Club to host Ardy Gonyer, Tuesday, April 28

Ardy Gonyer, local business owner and community volunteer, will be the speaker at the Exchange Club noon meeting on Tuesday, April 28, at Beckett’s Burger Bar Barrel Room.

Gonyer is co-owner of Call of the Canyon, EasyStreet/The Hideaway, and Falcon City Pest Solutions. In his spare time, he also serves as president of the Bowling Green City Schools Board of Education and serves on the BG Parks & Recreation board and the BG Parks Foundation board.

The topics Gonyer will address are the state of Bowling Green schools and plans for the schools’ future. He will also discuss life as a business owner in Bowling Green.

The Exchange Club meets weekly with guest speakers of local interest. Guests are always welcome to join club members for lunch. The cost for lunch is $13 per person.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore to host free electronics recycling event, Wednesday, April 22

In celebration of Earth Day, Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Bowling Green invites community members to responsibly recycle unwanted electronics at a one-day event on Wednesday, April 22, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The event will take place at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, 829 W. Newton Road, and is open to the public at no cost.

Residents are encouraged to bring a wide range of unwanted electronics for proper recycling. Accepted items include small household electronics, computers, printers, and accessories.

Television and computer monitors will not be accepted at this event.

This Earth Day initiative is made possible in partnership with AIM Recycling, helping ensure collected electronics are processed responsibly and sustainably. The event aims to reduce electronic waste and promote environmentally conscious disposal practices within the community.

By participating, community members can help keep harmful materials out of landfills while contributing to Habitat for Humanity’s work to build safe, affordable housing in Wood County.

BG Kiwanis Club to host BGSU professor to discuss personal privacy & technology security, Thursday, April 23

The Bowling Green Kiwanis Club is pleased to welcome Dr. Roy Sankardas, associate professor of computer science at Bowling Green State University, as the featured speaker at its meeting on Thursday, April 23.

The meeting will be held at noon in the Slater Family Ice Arena Lounge on the BGSU campus. The public is invited to attend, with lunch available from 11:30 a.m. for $17.

In his presentation, “Personal Privacy and Technology Security,” Sankardas will discuss the importance of protecting personal information in an increasingly digital world. Attendees will gain practical insights into common cybersecurity risks, best practices for safeguarding data, and how individuals can better protect their privacy in everyday technology use.

BG Rotary Club to host directors of BGSU international studies programs, Thursday, April 23

The BG Rotary Club has international ties as one of 45,000 clubs worldwide with 1.2 million members in over 160 countries. Because of these ties, this week’s speakers, the directors of BGSU’s international studies programs may be of special interest to members.

The speakers for Thursday, April 23, include Dr. Beatrice Guenther, director of BGSU’s Program of International Studies, and Dr. Vibha Bhalla, director of BGSU’s Global Village Learning Community. Together, they will provide an overview of how university students have multiple opportunities to study abroad.

Friday morning birding returns to Wintergarden

Bowling Green Parks and Recreation has announced the return of the Friday morning birding program this spring. The community is invited to join the volunteer naturalists of Bowling Green Parks & Recreation every Friday from April 10 to May 15 at 8 a.m. for a casual birding hike at Wintergarden/St. John’s Nature Preserve.

Adult bird watchers of all ability levels are welcome, and binoculars and field guides will be available for those who need them. Each hike will last up to an hour and a half, and no pre-registration is required. People may come to one hike or all of them as schedules allow.

Participants are asked to wear weather appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes for walking on the trails. Regardless of weather, watchers will still flock together.

BG Schools Foundation to host public trivia night fundraiser, Friday, April 24

The Bowling Green Schools Foundation invites the community to test their knowledge and support local students at BGSF Trivia Night 2026, taking place on Friday, April 24, at the Veterans Memorial Building in City Park. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

This evening of friendly competition will feature trivia rounds across a variety of topics, offering a great night out for friends, coworkers, and community members.

Community members are encouraged to form their teams and enjoy and evening of spirited competition – all in support of public education in Bowling Green.

Players staging ‘The Revolutionists’ weekends, April 24 through May 3

Tickets are on sale for the Black Swamp Players’ production of Lauren Gunderson’s play “The Revolutionists,” opening Friday, April 24, at the playhouse at 115 E. In the play, “our beautiful, badass women lose their heads in this irreverent, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris.

Bowling Green flea market returns monthly

The Bowling Green flea market is a one-weekend-per-month event, September through May. The event has been part of the Bowling Green community for approximately 54 years.

Taking place at Wood County fairgrounds, there are two buildings, Junior Fair and Champions buildings, with vendors and also outside vendors, weather permitting. Parking and admission are always free.

Vendors sell jewelry, crystals, antiques, coins, toys, comics, birdhouses, crafts, ephemera, rock and mineral specimens, fossils, video games, Pokémon, military items, sports items, Tupperware, and more.

2025-26 Schedule:

  • April 25-26
  • May 23-24

Hours are Saturday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The season will be closed for June, July, and August.

BG Ministerial Association to host ‘Handbell Extravaganza’ at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Sunday, April 26

The community is invited to come enjoy an afternoon of handbell music at the Bowling Green Handbell Extravaganza on Sunday, April 26, at 3 p.m., at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Hosted by the Bowling Green Ministerial Association, the concert will feature handbell choirs from BGSU Collegiate Ringers, First Presbyterian Church, St. Aloysius Catholic Church, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, and Trinity Methodist Church.

This collaborative concert highlights the collaborative music ministries of the Bowling Green community.

Library to continues teach ‘computer basics,’ Tuesday, April 28

“Computer Basics” introductory computer classes will guide those looking to gain confidence using websites, help those who need to clear out their email inbox, as well as discuss how AI is changing the internet and computers. To achieve this, the classes will teach the basic terminology and skills needed to navigate and use a computer.

This introductory computer class series will run through four computer topics over four weeks starting on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. in the Learning Lab at the Wood County District Public Library.

The courses will cover four facets of using a computer:

  • April 28 – Microsoft Word
    • This class teaches how to create letters, calendars, and more.

Wood County Hospital to host ‘Ladies’ Night Out’ on Thursday, April 30

Ladies’ Night Out will be held on Thursday, April 30, from 5 – 6:30 p.m. This free event is designed to encourage women to prioritize their health, even during the busiest seasons of life, and will highlight important aspects of women’s health that are often overlooked.

The evening will include appetizers, mocktails, screenings, tours, and giveaways. Guests can explore interactive tables featuring helpful information, practical takeaways, and insights on trending health topics. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet new providers, including OB-GYNs Dr. John Roost and Dr. Tamme Davis, along with the hospital’s new general surgeon, Dr. David Kim.

There will be a chance to be entered to win one of three gift cards, and swag bags will be available while supplies last. The event will take place at the main entrance of Wood County Hospital. This is an opportunity to gather with friends, enjoy a fun evening, and learn more about women’s health, prevention, and the services available at Wood County Hospital.

Wood County Museum to host free reenactment event, May 1 – 3

The community is invited to enjoy free family fun on the grounds of the Wood County Museum on Friday, May 1, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.; and Sunday, May 3, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. This living history event features costumed interpreters portraying life during the exploration of the Northwest Territory and the Ohio Country, especially along and near the Portage River in Wood County.

People can experience early settlers, Native Americans, military and political growth, and home life activities. There will be period reenactors from the 1700s to 1800s. Cannon and musket demonstrations will also take place. Schools and groups are welcome to come on Friday, May 1.

In addition to the event schedule, there will also be a historic dance, “Lady Brandeberry’s Ball,” on Saturday, May 2, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. In 2026, in honor of America250, the ball will be themed as a “Presidential Inauguration Ball.” The ball will feature music by The Root Cellar String Band and a dance caller will teach contra dancing with music fitting the era.

Free dance lessons will be available at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 2. This historic dance is free for all to attend and costumes are encouraged – think Bridgerton. RSVPs for the ball are appreciated by calling 419-352-0967 or visiting woodcountyhistory.org.

Food trucks Big Daddy’s Sausage House and Denise’s Nuts will be available for food and beverage sales through the weekend. An old-fashioned root beer stand will also be available from the Maumee Valley Heritage Corridor. Restrooms are available on site and parking is free for the event.

The Wood County Museum will be open for self-guided tours with paid admission the entire weekend of the event. The museum’s grounds will be open along with several outbuildings including the Lunatic Asylum, Pestilence House, and Ice House.

Wood County District Public Library’s bookmobile adds new stop on BGSU campus, Tuesdays

A new bookmobile stop has been added in Bowling Green, thanks to a partnership between BGSU’s Jerome Library and the Wood County District Public Library. The second Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m., the WCDPL bookmobile will roll into Parking Lot N, next to Jerome Library, bringing popular reading materials for the entire campus community.

The bookmobile will offer popular best-sellers in fiction and nonfiction, a selection of youth materials, and staff can fill requests at the next visit. This new bookmobile stop will serve students on campus, or staff and faculty who might want to visit before leaving campus for the day. Patrons who visit the bookmobile can also use the library located at 251 N. Main St. in Bowling Green.

The next visit to Parking Lot N on BGSU’s campus will be Tuesday, May 12, at 4 p.m.

Children’s Resource Center to host free ‘Hop Into Summer’ event, Saturday, May 16

Children’s Resource Center will host its free annual “Hop Into Summer” event on Saturday, May 16, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., at the Kiwanis Memorial picnic shelter at City Park, 520 Conneaut Ave., Bowling Green. There will be a cookout, yard games, activities for all ages, raffle prizes, and community resources available.

The event is made possible with support from the Bowling Green Human Relations Commission.

Weekly ‘Queer Coffee’ event to be hosted at Grounds For Thought on Sundays

“Queer Coffee” is held at Grounds For Thought, 174 S. Main St., every Sunday at 2 p.m. This event aims to be inclusive for anyone who is in the LGBTQ+ community, allies, friends, and family. Attendees can play board games, chat about life, and sip on coffee, tea, or lemonade.

Make new ‘Fiber Friends’ with weekly creative program at WCDPL on Tuesdays

The Wood County District Public Library, 251 N. Main St., invites all knitters and crocheters to join “Fiber Friends,” every Tuesday at 10 a.m., in the second floor programming room.

Fiber Friends is a social program that meets every week to chat and create. People of all skill levels are welcome. Even if someone has never picked up knitting needles or a crochet hook, they can learn the basics to get started on their newest hobby.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their current project or start a new one. Coffee will be provided.

Just Baby ‘N Me storytimes at library on Tuesdays

Just Baby ‘N Me is a lap-sit storytime ideal for babies. This unique storytime will be on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.in The Children’s Place at the Bowling Green Library.

This lap-sit storytime is great for babies from birth through early walkers (12 months). The focus during storytime is on rhymes, songs, finger plays, and exploring short books together, and is meant to facilitate interaction between you and your baby to develop their language and early literacy skills.

St. Mark’s hosts weekly community meals on Wednesdays. Doors open from 4:30 – 5 p.m., and the dinner is served from 5 – 6 p.m. There are trivia, devotion, and service presentations at 6 p.m. All are welcome.

Families are invited to enjoy storytime indoors at the Wood County District Public Library on Thursdays from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Attendees can visit the Bowling Green library Children’s Place for picture book readings, songs, games, and activities.
