From WOOD COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce a first-ever opportunity for its incarcerated individuals, out of the Inmate Growth Naturally and Intentionally Through Education – IGNITE – program. The Wood County Jail will be holding a job fair to connect incarcerated people to potential employers and provide them with meaningful career opportunities once released.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with Ohio Means Jobs to help bring in local employers, provide access to career resources, and facilitate positive reentry experiences to the workforce for incarcerated individuals. Those participating in the IGNITE program have been working on creating resumes and learning how to prepare for a job fair, interviews, and professional environments through weekly classes taught inside of the jail.
“We are extremely excited to be able to offer a first-of-its-kind job fair here through the IGNITE program,” said Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn. “Our jail staff, along with the volunteers in our programs and criminal justice interns from BGSU have been working hard to plan this job fair to be held right here inside of our jail. The partnership with Ohio Means Jobs to bring in local employers is precisely the reason behind the IGNITE program; in an effort to assist the inmates who are going to be looking for employment once released, teaching and creating with them resumes to use once released, and, ultimately, the goal of reducing recidivism is just a win for everyone involved.”
Participating employers will have the opportunity to present available job positions, career pathways, and discuss hiring requirements with inmates as well as connect them to a variety of resources they may have.
The job fair for incarcerated individuals will be on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., located inside the jail.
