Dear Friends,
On November 30, 2025, the BG Independent News staff published a request for support from its loyal community of readers. In the five days since, the staff has published 49 articles covering, by my rough subject classification, 14 public service announcements, including upcoming events, 4 BGSU plus a BGSU/BG collaboration, 8 police reports, 2 cultural, 1 BG government, and 4 BGHS articles, 1 obituary post, 7 public interest stories, 2 closure announcements 2 community calendar additions, and 1 opinion letter. Jan McLaughlin is the solid backbone of the Indy News, with Julie Carle at her side, but newcomer Lindsay-Jo Durham is a rising star. And it’s always a treat to read an article or three by Indy News veteran and reporter from afar, David Dupont.
We are privileged to have a reliable, independent source of local news and events. We all need to ask ourselves what the Independent News means to us — attach a dollar amount to what it would mean if we lost the Indy News, and either snail-mail a check or make an online donation for that — OK, the BG Independent News is priceless, but make a donation for what you can afford (then add a little) and send it off today before you forget! It will be a community Christmas present!
