From THISTLE AND BERRY
Everyone, regardless of gender identity or expression, is invited to the third annual “Transcendence” art show and benefit to celebrate trans+ artists in the Bowling Green community. The exhibit will be displayed at the Bowling Green Arts Council ArtSpace, 178 S. Main St., rear entrance to Coyote Beads, from Feb. 14 – 16, and will feature 25 – 40 artists. Hours for the exhibition are Feb. 14 – 15, from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., and Feb. 16, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., with a vendor exhibition at 6:30 p.m. The event is free to attend, and much of the art will be for sale.
Opening night, Saturday, Feb. 14, will have a 6:30 p.m. raffle with items from local stores, art, and more. Proceeds will be donated to No More Dysphoria to help local trans and gender non-conforming people with financial aspects of their transitions. Visitors may enjoy light refreshments from Sugar Milk Gluten Free Bakery and others. This is an alcohol-free event, and water and punch will be provided.
Opening night can be overstimulating to some people. If a person finds themselves becoming overstimulated and in need of help, they are encouraged to seek out an artist or member of security. They are also free to visit a different day, as opening night tends to be the busiest.
This is an all-ages event, though sensitive art will be on display. Event organizers would like to issue trigger warnings for the following content and subject matter: nudity, sexual themes, and themes including suicide and/or violence. The goal is for the event to be a safe space for artists to express and exhibit art that has deep meaning to them.
Visitors are asked to limit their bags and/or purses to 12 inches by 6 inches or smaller and should expect to be wanded upon entrance. It is encouraged to leave cumbersome items at home.
The show will close on Monday, Feb. 16, with a vendor exhibition featuring the artists from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
If interested in assisting with the event budget, contact transcendence.benefit@gmail.com. All other financial donations can be sent directly to No More Dysphoria. Thistle and Berry asks to send a screenshot of the donation to the same email, so the contribution can be included in the final tally.
