Ohio State Fire Marshal to recognize Perrysburg teen for saving lives during house fire

From OHIO DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE DIVISION OF STATE FIRE MARSHAL

The Ohio Department of State Fire Marshal’s Fire Prevention Bureau will recognize 14-year-old Isabelle Fleig of Perrysburg with a Smoke D.O.G. (Smoke Detector on Guard) Award for her actions that helped save her family during a house fire on Jan. 25.

On the morning of Jan. 25, Isabelle woke up to smoke alarms sounding in her home. After hearing the alarms, she went downstairs to investigate and saw a large fire in the kitchen. She then rushed back upstairs to wake her two siblings, getting them outside to safety.

With temperatures in the 30s, Isabelle was able to start a pickup truck in the driveway to keep her siblings warm until firefighters arrived on scene. She also saved the family’s pets by getting them into the garage.

The Middleton Township Fire Department said two things saved lives during this fire – working smoke alarms and the bravery of Isabelle, whose late father was a full-time firefighter.

The recognition will take place prior to the Middleton trustees’ meeting at the Middleton Township Administrative Office, 21745 N. Dixie Highway, Bowling Green, on Wednesday, April 15, at 5:30 p.m.
