Shirley K. Woessner, 78, of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 8, 2026.
She was born on December 22, 1947, in Fostoria, Ohio, to the late Virgil Kirkendall and Leonice Brenneman. Shirley was a proud graduate of Fostoria High School.
On December 23, 1970, Shirley married the love of her life, George Woessner. Together they shared nearly 49 years of marriage before his passing on September 24, 2019.
Shirley dedicated many years of service to Dining Services at Bowling Green State University, where she was known for her strong work ethic and friendly spirit. Following her retirement, she remained active in her community and continued to serve others in countless ways.
A true “busy bee,” Shirley was rarely idle. She was known for being a hardworking, dependable, and caring person who always put others before herself. She volunteered for many years at the Bowling Green Food Pantry, eventually taking on the responsibility of overseeing the entire operation. Her dedication and compassion helped countless individuals and families in need throughout the community.
Shirley also delivered the Bowling Green newspaper for many years. Along her route, she became well known for her kindness and generosity, often stopping by the Bowling Green Fire Department with extra newspapers and donuts for the firefighters. These small acts of thoughtfulness reflected the kind of person Shirley was—a giver who found joy in helping others and brightening their day.
More than anything, Shirley will be remembered for her generous heart, selfless nature, and unwavering commitment to serving her community. Whether through her volunteer work, her career, or simple acts of kindness, she touched the lives of many people and left a lasting impact on those who knew her.
Shirley is survived by her niece Charlene Hicks of Tiffin, Ohio and nephew Rick Kistler of Freemont, Ohio.
