The Bowling Green Memorial Day Planning Committee will conduct Memorial Day services on Monday, May 31, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bowling Green and Wood County Memory Gardens Cemetery.
There will be no parade this year.
The services will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery, and 1 p.m. at Wood County Memory Gardens Cemetery on Liberty Hi Road.
The keynote speaker will be Vernon Hansen Sr., retired colonel from the U.S. Air Force. The master of ceremonies will be retired Army Col. Greg Robinette. The National Anthem will be provided by vocalist Evie VanVohris. Father Tom McQuillen, pastor of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, will serve as chaplain, and Mayor Michael Aspacher will present Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. Logan’s Orders will be presented by John Fawcett, retired Army lieutenant colonel. A patriotic poem will be read by Joseph Fawcett, BG City assistant administrator and Global War on Terrorism veteran. Herbert Dettmer will recite Call to Remember.
In case of inclement weather, the program will be held in the Veterans Memorial Building in Bowling Green City Park at 10:30 a.m.
The Jerry City Memorial Day Committee is inviting observers to arrive at the Jerry City Cemetery Monday at 11 a.m., for the annual Memorial Day observance. This year’s guest speaker will be Airman First Class Conor Evans. Roll call of those interred at Jerry City and Mt. Zion Cemetery, who have served our country, will be read by Rose Chambers. Performing for those in attendance will be the Elmwood High School Marching Band.
