BG Police arrest two women for shoplifting more than $1,000 total in merchandise

Two women were arrested for allegedly stealing a total of more than $1,000 worth of items from Walmart on Tuesday.

Bowling Green Police were first called around 4 p.m. for a man and woman pushing a cart out of the store without paying for the items valued at $796. Charity Fisher, 41, of Lima, was stopped by police as she was walking through the grass toward West Gypsy Lane Road.

The man who had been with Fisher could not be found. The vest he was wearing was found in the parking lot.

The woman appeared confused, and had difficulty stating her name and birth date. Dispatch advised that she had an active Ohio State Patrol warrant in Findlay. When being questioned, Fisher reportedly lost consciousness. An officer administered two doses of Narcan, and BG Fire Division took her to Wood County Hospital.

Fisher was arrested for complicity to theft and falsification.

Later on Tuesday, around 6:30 p.m., an officer was patrolling the Walmart parking lot, trying to locate the male suspect in the previous theft. Since the female suspect was from Lima, the officer was looking for a vehicle with an Allen County license plate.

An Allen County plate was located, but not one connected with the first shoplifting incident. However, dispatch reported that the owner of the vehicle had an active warrant.

As the officer watched the vehicle, a woman approached with a shopping cart full of items. She placed them in the vehicle.

After giving the wrong name, and stating she did not own the vehicle, police identified the woman as Kara Ewing, 21, of Kenton. An officer observed items concealed in her purse, including four Yankee Candles.

Ewing had two active warrants and a suspended driver’s license.

Video from the store reportedly showed that she walked the shopping cart through a closed checkout, then out the door. She had reportedly taken 16 items valued at $433.

Ewing told police her husband was shopping at Home Depot, and that he had a driver’s license and could move the vehicle. She pointed to a man walking toward the vehicle as her husband.

However, the man told police he was not married to Ewing, though he later said they had a common law marriage. When police searched his information, it showed he also had a suspended driver’s license. The vehicle was towed from the parking lot.

Ewing was arrested for falsification, theft and possession of criminal tools. She was taken to the Wood County Jail.
