Always looking for holes in the local marketplace, Tim Emmerich and Ardy Gonyer believe they have discovered their next niche – doughnuts.
Starting on Friday (April 17), their downtown Bowling Green restaurant, Call of the Canyon Cafe, will be selling doughnuts baked by Holey Toledough Donuts.
These aren’t just typical glazed and sprinkled doughnuts. Specialty doughnuts by the bakery include maple bacon, chocolate banana crunch, pistachio delights, Ding Dong, Reeses, and breakfast cereal concoctions featuring Fruity Pebbles and Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
“I’m excited about the maple bacon doughnuts,” Gonyer said.
“I’m in love with the Oreo,” Emmerich said.
Call of the Canyon, 109 N. Main St., will be open for breakfast customers every Wednesday through Sunday, beginning at 7 a.m. As always, the restaurant will be open every day for lunch and dinner.
“I think this is going to be a great addition to the downtown,” Gonyer said.
In addition to the doughnuts, the cafe will also sell Holey Toledough houseblend hot and iced coffee roasted by Actual Coffee, plus Hartzler Family Dairy products featuring white, chocolate and strawberry milk.

At least eight different varieties of the Holey Toledough Donuts will be offered every day, with the shop starting out with 15 to 18 dozen each morning.
“We’ll have a pretty healthy selection of doughnuts,” Gonyer said. “We’re going to see how it goes. We can up that if necessary.”
Emmerich and Gonyer, who own multiple restaurants in Bowling Green and Findlay, are always looking for gaps in business that they can fill.
“This one happened to walk in our front door,” said Gonyer, explaining the doughnut shop owner visited Call of the Canyon and liked what he saw.
And it just so happened, “this town needs doughnuts,” Emmerich said. Something new to wake up downtown Bowling Green, with a “sweet treat and a cup of joe.”
Emmerich recalled growing up on the west side of BG near the former Stimmel’s Market, which later became the Sweet Stop – both places which sold fresh locally made doughnuts. The new venture at Call of the Canyon will fill that hole.
“Sometimes you’ve got to sell the product, and sometimes the product sells itself. This is one of those,” Emmerich said.
“Doughnuts are perfect for all occasions,” Gonyer said.
The business partners envision Holey Toledough Donuts satisfying several different demographics – retirees, students, employees taking a treat to work, downtown shops, and the nearby police station.
“We think that should help us out,” Emmerich said with a laugh. “Pretty much anyone who likes doughnuts is our market.”
Customers can eat their doughnuts in the cafe, take them to go, call ahead for pickup, and soon order to be delivered through Door Dash. Pre-orders will be taken for a dozen or more doughnuts.
Starting next week, pre-orders can be made by calling Call of the Canyon at 419-353-2255 or emailing parti.enterprises@gmail.com.
