Court reminds residents to be aware of fraudulent phone calls about jury service

Third floor of Wood County Courthouse

From WOOD COUNTY COURT OF COMMON PLEAS

The Wood County Court of Common Pleas is reminding residents to be aware of fraudulent phone calls regarding jury service. It is not the practice of the court to contact individuals by phone to request payment or communicate in a high-pressure manner related to jury service matters. Phone calls urging immediate action to avoid penalties are not legitimate.

The court is grateful for the service of its citizens and wishes to remind residents that Wood County’s jury process differs from many jurisdictions. Individuals selected for jury service receive initial correspondence by mail in the form of a jury postcard. The postcard provides contact information for the court’s jury coordinator, along with clear instructions and directions for accessing the court’s secure online jury portal.

Jury service is essential to a fair and functioning justice system. Judges Kuhlman, Reger, Mack, and Woessner extend their sincere appreciation to the citizens of Wood County who answer this call with reliability and care. Jury service is valued and plays a direct role in upholding the integrity of the courts.

Residents who receive a suspicious call or message are advised to hang up and contact the court directly to verify the communication. Court staff are available to assist with any questions regarding jury service. If anyone has concerns, they are encouraged to contact the Wood County Court of Common Pleas at 419-354-9620.
