State Patrol stops stolen vehicle with abducted child inside

On Saturday at approximately 7:47 p.m, the Ohio State Highway Patrols’ Toledo Post was alerted to a recent auto theft with an infant child inside of the vehicle from the city of Findlay.

The vehicle was located on Interstate 75 near the city of Bowling Green and troopers attempted to stop the vehicle. A pursuit ensued and continued onto Interstate 475 into Lucas County.

Troopers were able to successfully use tire deflation devices to deflate two of the suspect’s tires. The suspect continued into the city of Toledo, where he reportedly rammed a highway patrol cruiser as it was attempting to stop him.

The suspect pulled into a parking lot on Byrne Road North of Hill Avenue where he reportedly struck a second highway patrol cruiser before coming to a stop and the driver fleeing on foot.

Troopers and the Toledo Police Department gave chase and the suspect was apprehended a short distance later by a K-9 officer from the Toledo Police Department.

The suspect, Joshua Gilliland from Arcadia, Ohio, was transported to a local hospital for medical care due to the K-9 apprehension. Once cleared medically he will be transported to the Lucas County Jail and incarcerated for grand theft of a motor vehicle, felony child endangerment, felony fleeing and eluding, two counts of assault on a police officer, and kidnapping.

The infant child was returned to her parents at the scene and was not
injured in the incident.

The highway patrol was assisted in the pursuit by the Toledo Police Department and the Toledo Fire Department.
