Bowling Green Police were called to Bowling Green Middle School on Thursday (Oct. 8) at 2:38 p.m., to help with an unruly 11-year-old boy.
A school official reported that the student had punched him in the stomach. According to the police report, the boy was screaming, kicking the office door, pushed on the police officer’s vest, and grabbed the handle of the officer’s taser.
Police had responded to the school a few weeks ago when the student tried to leave school property. During that response, the boy kicked an officer in the shin. According to the police report, the parents wanted the student arrested and taken to the Wood County Juvenile Detention Center. The officer didn’t think that incident warranted that response.
The parents reportedly asked again last week that the boy be taken to the juvenile detention center. Police agreed. An officer removed his duty belt and rode in the back seat of the police cruiser with the boy to make sure he stayed safe.
