BG woman arrested for reportedly assaulting mental health residential employee

A Bowling Green woman was arrested Monday after she reportedly assaulted a staff member at a mental health residential facility.

Police were called to 801 N. College Drive at 5:25 p.m. for the report of a resident reportedly grabbing an employee by her ponytail, and pulling her hard enough to throw her to the ground.

The employee was assisted by another resident in getting Amy Vermilya, 53, off the staff member.

Vermilya told police she had a grand mal seizure during the incident and didn’t remember what happened.

Unison responded and determined that Vermilya was not experiencing a mental health crisis and did not meet the criteria for emergency hospitalization. Police charged Vermilya with assault and took her to the Wood County Jail.

Vermilya was arrested in June by BG Police for domestic violence and aggravated menacing at her home after she reportedly cut her husband with a large hunting knife.
