Barbara Jean Georgi

Barbara Jean Georgi (nee Crosby), 78, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon surrounded by loved ones at Otterbein of Pemberville.  She was born on March 20, 1945 in Toledo, Ohio to Howard and Viola Crosby.  Barbara never met a stranger.  Her smile lit up the room.  She was a great cook and learned early in her marriage how to make Hungarian dishes.  She was active until her health started getting in the way; riding her bike through the community in Florida or to her daughters’ homes here in Ohio.  Barbara was not a sports fan but she was a fan of her kids and grandkids.  She could be seen cheering at countless softball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and football games; and even trekked around a few cross-country courses.

Barbara and her husband, Frank, celebrated 59 years of marriage last month.  They raised their three daughters in a neighborhood where friends are family.  She expanded that family with the children she babysat.  For over 20 years, Barbara cared for other children and became friends with their parents.  So many of them still remember and love her today.

Barbara attended Calvin United Church of Christ in Toledo.  Over the years she served her church as a Sunday school teacher and consistory member.  She volunteered in the office, with the Noodle/Lorantffy ladies, and the Kolbasz makers.

Barbara made everyone feel welcome in her home.  She bought the largest dining room table she could find and still had a second table for family meals.  She loved with her whole heart and lived by the Golden Rule.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Frank; daughters, Sandi (Alan) Carsey, Cindi Georgi, and Tricia (Scott) Hornyak; grandchildren, Seth (Katie Cliff) Edwards, Camden (Dayna) Carsey, Cassidy Gladieux, Kelsie Gladieux, Brody Howard, Emerson Howard, Katie (Albert) Stoner, Jarrod (Kayla) Hornyak, and Zack Hornyak; great-grandchildren, Jones Carsey, Julian Stoner, and Adlee Stoner; brother, Robert Crosby; sister, Carol (Larry) Lines; and 10 nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Viola (Adamski) Crosby and in-law, Frank and Margaret Georgi.
