BG man charged with aggravated menacing after reportedly pointing gun at roommate

A Bowling Green man was charged with aggravated menacing on Wednesday after reportedly pointing a gun at his roommate and threatening to kill him.

Bowling Green Police Division responded to an apartment in the 100 block of East Court Street around 1:39 p.m., after getting a call about a dispute. They found Devon Battig, 25, and his roommate arguing.

The roommate told police that Battig had pointed a firearm at his forehead and stated that he could shoot him. The roommate stated he had been living at the apartment for about three weeks and is on probation for domestic violence. He told police that Battig has pulled the gun on him multiple times while he has been living there, and that Battig makes frequent comments about killing people.

Batting told police that his roommate is disrespectful and doesn’t follow the rules. He said he wanted the roommate out of his apartment.

A police officer checked with the city prosecutor, who said Battig has a prior conviction for aggravated menacing after threatening two girls with a knife. Battig also reportedly has prior convictions for assault, disorderly conduct with persistence and aggravated menacing.

Police seized Battig’s 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun. The firearm was secured with a gun lock and had one 17-round magazine that was full.

The roommate moved his items out of the apartment, and a police officer brought them to the police division building. The roommate waited at the police division until his ride came.
