BG police and fire respond to suspected arson of boat in apartment parking lot

Bowling Green police and fire divisions responded to a reported arson in the 800 block of Seventh Street on Tuesday around 11:30 p.m.

Police arrived to find a boat on fire. An officer put out the visible flames with a fire extinguisher, and noticed what looked like cardboard already burnt on the ground under the boat. BG Fire Division arrived to put out the rest of the smoldering fire.

The boat was in the back of the apartment parking lot, near a Honda sedan. There appeared to be burnt cardboard in front of the car also. The front of the vehicle had some damage from the flames.

A firefighter reportedly found a small lighter on the ground by the boat. There was also a half burned cigarette sitting near the burned cardboard. Both were collected from the scene as evidence.
