Gary Lyell Gill passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023.
Gary was born in Bowling Green, Ohio on February 12, 1953 to Anna Grace and Lyell Martin Gill and lived his entire life in Tontogany, Ohio, graduating from Otsego High School in 1971.
Gary worked for Good Year Tire and Rubber Company for many years. He was the terminal manager for an SSD small package delivery company, and worked for Mid-Wood Inc. in later years at the grain elevator.
He is survived by his children Stephanie, Salemburg, North Carolina and James (Marti), Michigan; brother, Denny Gill, Tontogany, OH; sisters, Judy Maxey (John), Bowling Green, OH; Janet Watson (Terry), Waterville, OH; and Jackie Carson (Brad), Grand Rapids, OH; grandchildren, Christopher Gill, and Zoey Gill; niece and nephews Tyler and Hunter Carson, Kirk Maxey and Kara Brown.
Gary loved to hunt pheasants and rabbits with his dad and brother Denny in the fall on the family farm when he was younger. He loved to shoot clay pigeons with the family in the fields on the farm and go for long walks in the woods with his dad.
He loved to ride the many motorcycles he owned over the years and especially in later years his Suzuki Burgman 650. One year he bought a new Toyota Land Cruiser and got a kick out of pulling people out of the snow during bad weather
He always put everything into his work and was proud of always being on time and never missing work. Gary really enjoyed working on anything mechanical, and building things from scratch, he could build anything and fix just about anything. He was the first person we all knew to have a personal computer, way before they were mainstream , and was very talented at programming it.
His favorite pastime was the Fire Dept. He was a fireman for over 25 years, was a certified instructor in CPR, an EMT and spent many hours working on equipment. He loved working next to his father who was Fire Chief and a fireman for over 50 years.
Gary was very outspoken on the outside, but very caring on the inside. He loved helping people.
Gary’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home, 18620 Washington St. Tontogany, Ohio 43565. Interment will follow at Tontogany Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m.
