Kenneth E Fortney

Kenneth E. Fortney, 67, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away January 2, 2020. He was born February 2, 1952 in Bowling Green to Marvin Fortney (deceased) and Marylou (Heising) Fortney. He married Pamela O’Neill on October 20, 1984 and she survives in Bowling Green. 

Ken was a 1970 graduate of Otsego High School. He served his country proudly as a Military Police Officer in the United States Army for three years. He worked for the Bowling Green Police Division for 34 years, retiring as Lieutenant on December 12, 2012. He was a former member of the FOP and member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Bowling Green. 

Ken loved sports and had a passion for coaching. He coached baseball teams at Carter Park and Bowling Green High School and coached CYO Basketball and JV Basketball at Bowling Green High School. He enjoyed golfing and always liked to stay busy working on various projects around his home and his children’s homes. 

His greatest joy in life came from the time he spent with his family. He was extremely proud of his three sons and all of their athletic achievements and career endeavors. He loved and fully embraced his new role as Grandpa to his granddaughter, Palmer Kate. He and Pam loved traveling around to visit the boys and their families and was always ready to lend a helping hand to them with any home projects. They enjoyed many family vacations to Florida and could often be found at many Bobcat and Falcon sporting events. 

Along with his wife of 35 years, Pam, Ken is survived by his sons Matthew Fortney (Alexis Rose) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jordan (Emily) Fortney of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Logan Fortney (Julie Kohn) of Columbus, Ohio and granddaughter Palmer Kate Fortney. He is also survived by his mother Marylou Fortney, siblings Roger Fortney of Concord, North Carolina, Michael (Holli) Fortney of Maumee, Ohio, Peg Bucksky of Grand Rapids, Ohio and Steve (Alice) Fortney of Bowling Green, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be held on Sunday January 5, 2020 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster St. Members of The Bowling Green Police Division will stand guard on Sunday at the funeral home. Military Honors will be rendered by the Wood County Honor Detail on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. 

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday January 6, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 150 S. Enterprise St. Bowling Green, Ohio. Father Tom McQuillen will officiate. 

Memorial contributions may be given in Ken’s memory to the Bobcat Booster Club.
