Letter carriers to collect food for local food pantries

On Saturday, May 12, the Bowling Green Post Office city letter carriers and rural letter carriers will be doing more than delivering mail and packages. This Saturday marks the 26th Annual Letter Carriers’ Food Drive.

For 26 years postal employees have picked up your food donations to help fill the local food pantries. Food pantries receive fewer donations during the spring and summer months, so the United States Postal Service, with the National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association teamed up to create the largest one-day food drive in the nation.

In 2017, Northwest Ohio weighed in at 320,000 pounds of food. Last year Bowling Green carriers picked up 10,415 pounds to help local families in need. All food collected in Bowling Green stays in Bowling Green.

We need your help. This Saturday, please leave nonperishable food items in/at your mailbox and your carrier, or a volunteer will pick them up and deliver them directly to the local food pantry. If you have a large donation, call 419-352-7545 and pick up will be arranged.
