Luckey man killed in vehicle-pedestrian crash Friday morning

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a crash in Troy Township in which a pedestrian was killed Friday morning.

At approximately 8:20 a.m., a crash occurred at the intersection of Ohio 582 and Bradner Road, east of Luckey. A Chrysler minivan, driven by Sarah Ayers, 21, was headed west on Route 582 when it reportedly went off the road. The driver was able to get the vehicle back onto the roadway, but reportedly over-corrected, and lost control of the van.

As the vehicle went out of control, it went back off the roadway and struck a pedestrian, identified as Raymond Froelich, 78, of Luckey.

Troy Township EMS crews arrived on the scene, along with the sheriff’s office, and attempted life-saving measures, but Froelich was pronounced deceased shortly after. The crash remains under investigation.
