The Roots & Boots Tour, featuring country music icons Sammy Kershaw, Collin Raye and Aaron Tippin, is coming to the 2024 Wood County Fair. The main grandstand act was announced Monday morning.

The concert will be at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1. Ticket prices are $65 for the VIP pass, $50 for track tickets and $35 for general admission grandstand tickets.

Tickets will be available in person at the Wood County Fair Office on April 13 starting at 8 a.m. After the morning sale on April 13, the tickets will be available online by about noon on April 13.

During the March meeting, the Wood County Fair Board directors heard about plans for installation of a cell tower in the fairgrounds’ parking lot south of Poe Road. If approved, the tower would be built near the Bowling Green electrical substation.

Royce Low shared contract information for the board to consider. “Verizon is in need of capacity,” he said. “They would like the tower to be built now.”

The proposed contract is for a 30-year lease with Verizon paying $950 per month to the fair once the tower is completed. An escalator clause in the contract increases the monthly payment by 1.5% annually after the first year.  If AT&T wants access to the tower, the fair board would receive an additional $250 per month.

A limited number of camping sites during the fair were not renewed. Starting on Monday (April 1), the sites that were not renewed are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Campsites are $200 for the week, and the buyer must also hold a $30 membership for the week. Reservations will be taken in the fairgrounds’ office between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Payments may be made with cash, check or credit card. All card transactions include a 3% fee.

Front-row seats are sold out. A total of 135 ringside seat tickets  ($30 each) and 22 general admission tickets ($25 each) have been sold.  Tickets are available on the fair website and will be available at the door.

Beer and concessions will be available for purchase during the event.  Must be 21 to purchase alcohol as ID will be required. It is a cash-only event; there is an ATM on-site. Parking will be available in the vicinity of the event venue.
