Sheriff’s deputy cited after two-vehicle crash in BG

A Wood County Sheriff’s Office deputy was cited after a two-vehicle crash Monday morning that sent an inmate to the hospital.

According to the Bowling Green Police Division crash report, Michael Christen was southbound on North Prospect Street at 10:45 a.m., driving a county-owned passenger van used for sheriff’s inmate transports. Christen stopped at the red light at East Wooster Street.

Deborah Newlove, Bowling Green, was eastbound on East Wooster Street at the intersection.

A vehicle in front of Christen turned right on red so Christen told police he proceeded into the intersection thinking the light was green.

Newlove struck the passenger side front fender of the county van. Airbags deployed in both vehicles.

Kendall Jackson, who had just been sentenced to prison during a Wood County Common Pleas Court hearing, was seated behind the van driver’s seat. She was taken to Wood County Hospital by BG EMS with a possible injury.

Christen was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device.
