Traffic pattern change to occur at I-475 and Route 25 exit ramps in Perrysburg

A new traffic pattern will be put in place Wednesday, July 26, that will prohibit turning right on red from both exit ramps from Interstate 475 to Ohio 25 in Perrysburg.

The right turning movements at the exit ramps have displayed a strong trend of read-end crashes since the diverging diamond interchange (DDI) was opened in 2017. The interchange has provided a 10 percent overall improvement in crash safety, but better results were expected.

An analysis by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 2’s traffic engineers concluded the geometry of the ramps is the likely reason.

“Because of the angle of the exit ramps, it’s difficult for drivers as they exit I-475 to turn and look over their shoulder to see oncoming traffic. And because the interchange is a  DDI, traffic is coming from behind the dividing wall and from a non-traditional location,” said Pat McColley, ODOT District 2 deputy director.

From approximately 4-6 a.m. Wednesday, the right turn movements from both exit ramps from I-475 to Route 25 will be closed while crews install overhead signage to indicate the change.
