From BOWLING GREEN CITY SCHOOLS
From April 30 – May 1, the Bowling Green FFA chapter attended the 98th Ohio State FFA Convention. From the chapter, 24 members traveled with Otsego FFA to Columbus where the chapter achieved awards as individuals and as a chapter.
After arriving in Columbus, FFA members attended the first and second general sessions of the convention. Members had a chance to view the career show and listen to two keynote speeches during the convention sessions. That evening, members enjoyed some fun, food, and chapter bonding at Dave and Busters.
On day two of the convention, gold medal officers were recognized on stage. The officers get evaluated on their officer books and record-keeping skills. During the fourth session, three BG FFA officers were recognized with gold ratings. Grace O’Connell, treasurer; Kelsey Kline, reporter; and Isabella Belleville, secretary, walked across the stage for this recognition.
During the fifth session of the convention, the BG FFA watched its very own Gavin Roessner and Casey Naus become BG FFA’s most recent State FFA Degree recipients. Less than 4% of Ohio FFA members receive this honor. These two names will be added to the wall of state degree winners in the classroom. This degree recognizes outstanding Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects, FFA achievements, and involvement in school and community activities.
Roessner’s SAE is entrepreneurship in the category of landscape management. He owned and operated a mowing service and served local customers in Bowling Green for over two years.
Naus’s SAE was diversified crop production. He grew corn and soybeans and was a farm hand. He did anything from fuel equipment to maintenance to ground work and in the fall, he ran the grain cart. Naus also had a job placement at Luckey Farmers Inc.
Bowling Green FFA is a satellite program of Penta Career Center.
