Woken up by Code Red alert at 2:40 this morning? Sheriff’s dispatch says sorry

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is apologizing for waking up Wood County citizens in the night with an alert from the new Code Red system. The alerts are intended to notify county residents of emergencies like dangerous weather or hazardous material incidents.

A sheriff’s dispatcher inadvertently activated a test of the Code Red system during her training at 2:40 this morning. The alert was mistakenly sent out to Code Red subscribers throughout the county.

A press release from the sheriff’s office said that the dispatcher and Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn understand the inconvenience it may have caused.

“We will do our best to keep this from happening again,” the release stated.
