The 1BookBG program was kicked off recently with a mascot photo shoot.
Through the generosity of the community and the Wood County District Public Library, all Bowling Green elementary schools will participate in the annual literacy project – “1BookBG: One Community, One Book…Bowling Green Proud!”
Staff members from Bowling Green’s Crim, Kenwood, Conneaut elementaries, along with BG Christian, St. Aloysius Catholic School, Montessori Schools and Sleek Academy, have united to provide students and families with an engaging literacy experience while connecting with members of the community.
The schools are proud to have kept this important community program going even through the tumult of the past few years.
This year the schools are partnering with the Wood County District Public Library to include school visits with author Jerry Pallotta, as 1BookBG will be featuring his “Who Would Win” series for this year’s program.
The library is funding these visits along with a Sunday afternoon program for the community.
The “Who Would Win” series is a popular compilation of titles imagining favorite animals facing off in the wild. This year students voted between two book choices. Each grade across the community will be reading the same book.
Prior to receiving their book, students predicted which animal would win. After reading the book, they have a chance to win prizes by completing a response sheet. They also can win by stopping at community mission stops and by answering weekly Teach Me/Tell responses at school.
As the schools kick off the 1BookBG community read with Jerry Pallotta’s “Who Would Win?” series, the real answer is that everyone wins when they read.
