The next brush collection in Bowling Green will begin on Monday, April 21. To ensure pickup, residents must place their brush on the curb by 7 a.m. on April 21. This is the first brush collection of the year. The next collection will be in May.
Brush should not be placed curbside any sooner than one week prior to pick up.
Brush and limbs should be placed loosely at the curb – not bundled. Brush mixed with leaves or other yard debris will not be collected. The city, at its discretion, will not collect entire trees placed in the right of way because of work by a contractor.
For cul-de-sacs, people are asked to not place brush in the cul-de-sac green space as it may block fire hydrants, and may be unmanageable for city equipment to remove.
Pickup is by ward and not by normal refuse collection day.
Brush is defined by the city as anything having a bark covering, such as:
- Burning bushes/clippings
- Shrub clippings
- Shrubs
- Tree limbs
- Twigs
Brush collections for locations served by city refuse collection will occur the third week of the months of April, May, September and October. There is no registration necessary.
To prepare for your pickup, follow the guidelines below:
- Brush should be placed curbside loosely, not bundled.
- Limbs in excess of 6 inches diameter and 6 feet in length will not be picked up.
- Stumps will not be collected.
- Brush mixed with leaves or other yard debris will not be collected.
- Do not place brush near poles, mailboxes, guy wires, or any other structures.
- The city, at its discretion, will not collect entire trees or bushes placed in the right-of-way as a result of work by a contractor.
- The intent is to collect reasonably sized brush piles – nothing larger than a pickup truck load and no smaller than a wheelbarrow load.
- If you live on a cul-de-sac street, do not place brush in the cul-de-sac green space. This may risk blocking fire hydrants and it tends to create piles that are unmanageable for proper collection with city equipment.
- Do not place brush in your refuse or recycling container as this may lead to a citation.
- The placement of brush in the public right-of-way is not permitted unless it is part of the collection schedule as outlined above.
Any questions regarding the brush collection should be directed to the Public Works Department.
Residents may view the city’s Brush Collection Map to follow the leaf collection progress as crews move through the city. Progress is updated at the end of each week day.
