An 81-year-old Bowling Green man reported to police Tuesday (May 6) that he had been a victim of a scam.
The man told police he received a call from someone claiming to work for All Ohio Bail Bonds, telling him he needed to pay 10% of $13,000 to post bond for his son, who was incarcerated in Franklin County Jail.
The man’s son had been arrested May 4 for domestic violence and taken to jail.
The Bowling Green man said he paid $1,300 to bail out his son, but received no proof of the bond. Three hours later, he received another call saying he needed to pay another $625 for an ankle monitor. The father realized at that point that he was likely being scammed.
The man told police he found out today (May 7) that his son was never issued a bond, and he had never called a bondsman.
The father had used his bank card to pay the scammer, and the bank froze his card and stated they would return $1,300 to his account.
Once the man gives police transaction reports, the police stated they could issue a subpoena.
