Weather forecast updates predict later start to snow; Wood County under Level 1 Snow Alert

As of 10:15 p.m. Saturday, Wood County is under a Level 1 Snow Alert.

Based on Saturday afternoon’s weather update from the National Weather Service Cleveland, not much has changed for this region, according to the Wood County Emergency Management Agency. Snow amounts have increased slightly but not significantly, the beginning has been moved to 4-6 a.m. on Sunday.

Highlights:

  • This will be a prolonged snow fall lasting around 24 hours for Wood County starting Sunday morning between 4-6 a.m. ending Monday around 1 a.m.
  • The heaviest amounts will be between 1-7 p.m. Sunday.
  • Confidence is high for 6 inches of snowfall with potentially higher amounts.
  • After this weekend’s snow, Wood County will be under a prolonged cold air outbreak which is rare. Due to the prolonged nature, residents should prepare for infrastructure failure such as frozen pipes, dead car batteries, etc.

Gov. Mike DeWine has issued a proclamation declaring a state of emergency in Ohio. There are a number of factors that could determine emergency funding, such as the damage cost, FEMA involvement and presidential disaster declaration.
