Richard ‘Rex’ Gullufsen

Richard “Rex” Allen Gullufsen, age 75, of Pemberville, OH passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at Brookdale of Bowling Green. He was born on October 26, 1950 in Luckey, OH to Harold and Isaura (deFonsica) Gullufsen. On November 24, 1972 he married Linda Anne Migliarini at Holy Trinity English Lutheran Church in Salem, OH. Rex and Linda raised 3 children and celebrated 53 years of marriage together.

Rex graduated in 1968 from Eastwood High School. He received his Associates from Owens Community College in 1970, his Bachelor’s of Science in 1975 from Youngstown State University, Master’s from Bowling Green State University. He also attended the Ohio State Police Academy in 1975, Northwestern University Traffic Institute Police Command and Staff.

Rex worked for 30 plus years as a police officer for BGSU as a Lieutenant and worked for a while as a Wood County Park Ranger. He served as the Campus Service Officer Coordinator, Crime Prevention Officer, Special Tactics Team Leader, and Crowd Control Team Instructor. In addition, he wrote the BGSU Police Department Manual and Emergency Response Manual. Following retirement, Rex owned and operated Laurel Valley Photography.

Rex became a member of the Zieta Beta Tau Fraternity at Youngstown State and served as the alumni advisor to the BGSU chapter. He was the Most Outstanding Young Men in America, Who’s Who on College Campuses in America, a recipient of the Presidential Mamot Internship Program, the Great Lakes Internship Program, and the honor of the 1995 Police Employee of the Year.

Rex was a founding member of Agape Church of Prayer where his ministries included being a head trustee, board chair and a Deacon. He was also a member of the International Fraternal Organization of Chaplains (IFOC) serving as a Captain in addition to being ordained. He was a Townsend Artison Guild founding member and vice president, belonged to the Great Smokey Mountains Association (EYS), Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), and he was a National Leadership and Scholarship Honorary recipient.

He enjoyed hiking, swimming, biking, photography, musical theater and traveling. Rex traveled to 24 foreign countries including 3 weeks in Russia in 1990, 6 ½ weeks in Italy, France and the Greek Islands in 2010. He traveled to all 50 states, the 3 U.S. territories, and 26 National Parks.

In addition to his wife Linda, Rex is survived by his children: Amanda (Ryan) Speer of Perrysburg, Eric (Molly) Gullufsen of Maumee and Zachary (Krista) Gullufsen of Dayton. Grandchildren: Ashley, Aaron, Cailin, McKenna, Max, Iona, Haar, and Torrin. Also, his sisters: Sally Ann Radeloff, Jayne Ludewkowski, and brother, Mike Gullufsen. He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson, Austin Fleming.

Rex will be laid to rest during a family committal service in Plain Township Cemetery, Bowling Green, OH.
