Doris Hille

Doris Meier Hille passed away on September 18, 2026, just weeks before what would have been her 101st birthday.

Doris was born on October 22, 1925, in Toledo, Ohio, to John and Almeta (Ahlemann) Meier. She was raised on the family farm in Curtice, Ohio, where she learned the value of hard work at an early age. Throughout her life, she loved sharing stories of growing up on the farm and the many experiences that helped shape the woman she became.

Doris graduated from Clay High School in 1944. Her connection to Clay remained very special to her throughout her life. On September 4, 2026, during Clay High School’s Centennial Celebration, Doris was honored at halftime as the school’s oldest living local alumna. Members of her family joined her for the recognition and brought along treasured pieces of her Clay history, including her diploma and photographs from her days with the Clay Band.

Following high school, Doris attended Bowling Green State University where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She began her professional life in education, teaching in both the Jerusalem Elementary School in Oregon, Ohio and the Whitehouse, Ohio School District.

She married Dale Hille, and together they had three children: Karen, Dennis and Karlyn. Doris and Dale shared a love of travel and owned and operated D&H Trailer Sales in Bowling Green, Ohio for 17 years.

n 1975, Doris began a long and successful career in real estate with John Newlove Real Estate in Bowling Green. She was recognized as the Outstanding Sales Leader in 1984 and, in 2004, was inducted into the Wood County Board of Realtors Hall of Fame. Doris continued working in real estate until 2010, retiring at the age of 85. She also worked part-time at Bowling Green State University in several positions over the years.

Doris believed strongly in giving back to her community. She was a member of the Wood County Hospital Guild, where she could often be found “pushing the cart,” delivering goodies to patients, or volunteering at the hospital’s front desk and helping visitors find their way to patient rooms.

Her faith and her church family were an especially important part of her life. Doris was a faithful member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bowling Green from 1957 until she moved to Toledo in 2022 to be closer to her children. She was a member of the Mary-Martha Circle and the Welcome Team and treasured the many friendships she formed through the church.

Moving away from Bowling Green meant leaving behind many of the activities and people she dearly loved, but her connection to St. Mark’s remained strong. Even when she could no longer attend church in person, Doris never missed a Sunday service on television. Watching the service was one of the highlights of her week.

One of the great joys of Doris’s later years was celebrating her 100th birthday in October 2025 surrounded by family and friends. The milestone was a fitting celebration of a life filled with faith, family, friendship, hard work, travel and countless wonderful memories.

Doris is survived by her children, Karen (Bill) Roman, Dennis Hille, and Karlyn (Terry) Stamper; her grandchildren, Sarah (Rick) Jackson, Aaron (Lindsey) Stamper, and Meghan Roman; and her great-grandchildren, Chase and Berkeley Jackson, and Nolan and Kyle Stamper.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Almeta (Ahlemann) Meier; her brothers, John (Doris) Meier and Lester (Mary Lou) Meier; and her sister, Lucene (Vic) Pyers.

Doris was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She valued relationships deeply and had a remarkable ability to remember people, places, stories and events from throughout her long life. Her wonderful stories, determination, humor, strong work ethic, faith and love of family will remain a treasured part of her legacy.

A service celebrating Doris’s life will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 2 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bowling Green, Ohio.

In keeping with Doris’s wishes, her body was donated to the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences for use in medical education and research.
