From UNITED WAY OF GREATER TOLEDO
As high food prices stretch household budgets this holiday season, people can help put nutritious meals on local families’ tables. United Way of Greater Toledo invites the community to be part of the solution through its fifth annual United for the Holidays.
Volunteers’ time will strengthen a coordinated community effort with Islamic Food Bank, Grace Community Center, BCS Food Pantry, and Brown Bag Food Project. Together, these partners and volunteers help food reach neighbors across northwest Ohio.
“Each of us has something to contribute to a community where families have enough to eat,” said Wendy Pestrue, CEO of United Way of Greater Toledo. “Our food partners bring expertise, our sponsors provide critical financial resources, and volunteers help put those resources into action. When you sign up, you become an important part of the solution, helping a neighbor bring holiday food home, creating special memories, and easing some of the pressure on a family’s budget.”
Volunteer opportunities are available through Wood, Lucas, and Ottawa counties, with flexible shifts for individuals and groups. Shifts are available between Wednesday, Nov. 11, and Monday, Nov. 23. People can come on their own, invite a friend, or organize a workplace team. Every commitment strengthens the local organizations families count on.
United for the Holidays is made possible through the support of FedEx, Eastman & Smith, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, PBF Energy, SSOE, FM Bank, The Andersons, Materion, and more.
Holiday preparations are underway. Volunteers may choose their November shift today and invite someone to join them. Participants’ time can help a family gather around the table with a meal to share and one less worry.
