Peggy Thompson and I first met nearly thirty years ago when we joined Bowling Green School District in our respective positions as an accounts payable clerk and a clerical specialist. Peggy was, by nature, meticulous in her work and curious about the intricacies of school finance and procedures. Intellectually, Peggy continued to find avenues to further her understanding of the regulations and restrictions surrounding educational funding. This desire to learn and understand led her to obtain an associate degree in accounting from Owens Community College and subsequent bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Heidelberg College.
It was important to Peggy to be active at Crim Elementary where her three children were enrolled. She served as treasurer of the PTO and was always ready to help support administrators, teachers, classified staff and, most importantly, students and parents. She volunteers as a Breakfast Buddy at Crim and is a frequent lunchroom visitor at Kenwood and Middle School. She has responded with enthusiasm and a sense of purpose to the calls from school administration for the public to be active and visible.
Peggy’s service as an officer in the local OAPSE Chapter, which represents the classified staff of the district, provided her with a different perspective on listening and understanding. Being a member of the negotiating committee only deepened that understanding.
Her entrepreneurial spirit is grounded in service-oriented family businesses that continue to grow through quality of service and product delivered by Peggy and other family members. In her business ventures, Peggy never shies away from hard work or difficult problems, always striving to find the best solutions. Through time, whether in business or personal life or community commitment, I have seen Peggy grow as a person who is always seeking knowledge and insight and will tirelessly strive to make the best decisions possible even if they are not always popular.
With a strong affection for family and community, Peggy remains involved with church and civic endeavors such as BG Leadership Class. An essential part of every day is supporting her grandchildren and their classmates in their activities.
As Election Day approaches, I urge you to consider Peggy’s qualifications and to familiarize yourself with all candidates and issues in order that you may make the most informed decisions possible.
