Paul R. Spoerl, 83, of Weston, Ohio passed away Saturday August 27, 2016. Paul was born on August 4th or 5th, 1933 to George W. and Opal (Stinehart) Spoerl. His mother always said it was the 4th but his birth certificate says the 5th. If you told him “Happy Birthday” on the 4th he would tell you his birthday was on the 5th. If you told him “Happy Birthday” on the 5th, he would tell you were a day late. That was just part of Paul’s good humor and orneriness. Paul was known by his neighbors for the practical jokes and birthday wishes his best friend Jim Bostdorff and he played on each other for many years. In the dark of the night they would each put up elaborate birthday displays in the other’s front yard to celebrate their birthdays and friendship. He married Joanne L. Goodger on August 29, 1953 and she preceded him in death April 13, 2016.
Paul was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Bowling Green. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Wood County Farm Bureau. He was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed welding. He sold Dekalb seed for 32 years. Paul and his wife Joanne were Grand Marshals at the 2005 Wood County Fair.
He is survived by his son Douglas (Jane) Spoerl of Weston, Ohio, daughter Amy (Tom) Knoedler of Findlay, Ohio, grandchildren Thomas Spoerl and Nicole Spoerl ( finance’ Eric Sargent), great-grandson Bentley Sargent, sisters Janet (Bill) Doane, Barbara (Dennis) Lahman and Donajean (Dave) Eckel.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Joanne and brother Howard Spoerl.
