A Bowling Green woman was cited for failure to confine her dogs after one reportedly bit a jogger in the 400 block of North Summit Street on Friday around 10:20 a.m.
This was the second time Kelley Stevens, 48, was cited for failing to confine her dogs – the last time being in August.
Police arrived on the scene to find the jogger with a bite to his right lower leg. The jogger said two pit bulls began chasing him, then one bit him. Bowling Green Fire Division responded to treat the jogger.
Police talked to a witness who was in a van with two other people when the bite occurred. The witness said she saw the dogs swarm around the jogger, and she called police just as the jogger was bitten.
As officers were on the scene on North Summit Street, a dispatcher took another call that the dogs had bitten someone on Ridge Street near the campus.
Police called the county dog warden for assistance. The dog warden first went to the BGSU stadium to catch a third dog related to the two police were searching for.
Police located the other two between the 300 blocks of North Prospect and North Main streets. Officers kept following the dogs. One of the dogs walked into a garage in the 400 block of North Prospect Street, and the owner shut the door, capturing the dog in the garage.
A BGSU police officer arrived with a catch pole and assisted city officers in tracking the last dog around houses, until they were able to pin it between cars in the 400 block of North Prospect Street until the dog warden arrived. The dog warden also retrieved the other dog from the garage.
The dogs were taken to the Wood County Dog Shelter.
Animal bite reports were submitted to Wood County Health Department and Wood County Dog Warden.
