Connor Rose has captured the Republican primary win for the seat of Wood County Recorder by nine votes.
The Wood County Board of Elections met this morning to certify the results from the primary election on March 19. The initial results from election night had Rose in a tie with incumbent James Matuszak, with both getting 6,189 votes.
After the provisional and absentee ballots were added in, the official vote count announced this morning was 6,233 for Rose, and 6,224 for Matuszak, who is finishing his first term in the office.
“This election proves that every vote counts,” Rose said after the meeting.
“I’m humbled and grateful,” he said. “I’m just so thankful for all the support I received.”
Rose reached out to those who didn’t vote for him, saying “I look forward to working hard and earning your trust.”
Rose, a realtor and auctioneer from Bowling Green, will now face Democratic candidate Jeremy Schroeder in the November election.
Because of the closeness of the vote tallies, an automatic recount will be conducted on April 9, beginning at 9 a.m.
After this morning’s meeting, Wood County Board of Elections Director Terry Burton said recounts very rarely change results.
“It’s very unusual for anything to change,” Burton said of the official count.
