April is Earth Month and multiple agencies are collaborating throughout Wood County to provide events geared toward conservation, education, and family fun.
The 12th Annual Community Earth Day Celebration will be the culminating event held on Sunday, April 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. (rain or shine). This free family event is open to all and is filled with fun hands-on learning stations.
The Montessori School of Bowling Green, located at 515 Sand Ridge Road, provides an ideal backdrop for this Earth Day Celebration. Participants are invited to enjoy 14 acres of land and spend some time at the Black Swamp Preserve and Slippery Elm Trail while attending the event.
Plant a sunflower with BGSU, learn about frogs with the Bowling Green Parks & Rec Department, learn about trees with the city’s arborist, and give the Wood County Park District’s giant Earth Ball a roll.
Interactive games will be provided by the Wood County Solid Waste District, Northwestern Water & Sewer District, and others. The Wood County District Public Library will be there with an Earth Day Storybook Walk, and the Ohio EPA, Wood County Health Department, Center for Food and Culture, and Montessori School of Bowling Green will host informative, hands-on learning stations.
Come early, bring a bike, and go for a slow roll along the Slippery Elm Bike Trail with the Bowling Green Bike Safety Commission. This ride will begin in the Montessori School Parking Lot at 1 p.m. Riders must wear a helmet.
City residents are encouraged to get involved throughout the month of April to make Earth Day every day, and then come celebrate on April 21.
