From WOOD COUNTY AUDITOR’S OFFICE
The fourth annual Wood County Employee Charity Cornhole Tournament took place on Wednesday, Nov. 26. Hatched as an idea of Clerk of Courts Doug Cubberley and assisted by Judge Matthew Reger and Auditor Matthew Oestreich, the tournament allows departments to interact and raise funds for charity.
This year, a food drive was added to help those with food insecurity. The winning team from the Sheriff’s office selected The Nest as its charity, donating $1,060 to the organization. The runners-up from the prosecutor’s office selected Wood County Special Olympics and donated $452. Two van loads of food were also collected and distributed to Brown Bag Food Project and BG Christian Food Pantry.
“The opportunity to help those less fortunate is something that deserves our attention. What started out as a simple idea four years ago is now that opportunity for all county employees to help those in our county who are most in need,” stated Cubberley.
“The cornhole tournament is a great event that brings all county employees together in the spirit of Thanksgiving to enjoy each other’s company and to give back to the community. It’s a great event that does great things and builds collaboration between offices,” Reger added.
