Art for Action: Youth Art Show highlights tobacco prevention and advocacy

From WOOD COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

The Wood County Health Department and Children’s Resource Center are proud to announce a virtual youth art show showcasing original artwork by local youth. All of the artwork was created as part of a powerful public health initiative funded by the Ohio Department of Health’s Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Grant.

During the 2024-25 grant cycle, the health department was awarded funding to implement a youth-focused project using art as a vehicle for advocating policy change. The partnering agencies launched a program that empowered young people to become advocates for healthier futures.

Participants engaged in educational sessions where they learned about the risks of nicotine and tobacco use and were introduced to the power of social marketing and advocacy. Following these sessions, the youth used their knowledge and creativity to produce artwork that communicates anti-tobacco messages and envisions a healthier community.

The virtual showcase features the original pieces, along with collaborative T-shirt designs created by the students. The online event, which runs now through May 31, is a celebration of youth voices, resilience and the power of creative expression in shaping public health outcomes.
