Assistive Technology Fair at Owens CC

From OWENS COMMUNITY COLLEGE 

Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities and Owens Community College are partnering to provide a day full of fun and education regarding assistive technology and remote supports.

The Assistive Technology Fair will be held in Pwens’ Center for Fine and Performing Arts 7270 Biniker Road, Perrysburg, Friday, April 26, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m..

Owens School of Nursing and Health Professions students will complete an Interprofessional Education activity as they continue to prepare for patient-centered care careers. IPE occurs when healthcare students from different disciplines collaborate to improve a patient’s health outcomes.

Nearly 30 community organizations will staff tables.

Industry professionals will offer presentations regarding assistive technology.

Activities include:

Carly Dauch (OT, WCBDD) will provide a virtual tour of Smart Home that features over 100 pieces of assistive technology as well as remote support monitoring, 9-10 a.m.

Sarah Heldmann (COTA/L, ATP, WCBDD) will moderate a panel of persons with disabilities sharing their experiences using assistive technology for increased independence and health promotion, 10-11 a.m.

Disability awareness video by CAIRE, LLC featuring Owens’ students, 11-11:30 a.m. Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities Provider Relations Team discusses how to become a Direct Support Professional, 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Stride Mobility will host an overview of basic wheelchair mechanics and maintenance, noon to 1 p.m.

Lunch will be available from food trucks.
