Because democracy depends on high quality education, the BG League of Women Voters urges support of school levy

Citizens in the Bowling Green School Community will see a 0.75% operating levy on the November 5th ballot. Voters have not approved an operating levy increase since 2010. During those 14 years, the school system’s operating costs have increased significantly and support from the State of Ohio has decreased significantly. Without the relatively modest budget increase (in school funding metrics) the school system will be operating at a deficit by 2026.

BG’s teachers, staff, and administrators have been asked to do more and more with less and less, to the point that there are very few efficiencies to be found. Poorer funding results in poorer schools, under-served students, and a less intellectually and economically healthy and vibrant community. It is time to adequately fund our schools for the good of our children and for the good of our community.

Democracy depends on high quality and accessible public education. The League of Women Voters urges you to make our children’s education your top priority and vote for an educated electorate, for Democracy, and FOR the Bowling Green Schools’ levy.
