BG Area Community Bands to host holiday concert on Dec. 14

From BOWLING GREEN AREA COMMUNITY BANDS

The Bowling Green Area Community Bands invites the community to a festive time of music and kinship as it features its holiday concert, “Joyous Sounds!” The concert will be held on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 4 p.m. at the Bowling Green Performing Arts Center, located at 530 W. Poe Road.

People can ring in the season with “Joyous Sounds!” as conductor Catherine Lewis leads the band through “Gaudete,” arranged by Brian Beck and “Winter Dances” by Brian Balmages with soloists Howard Williams on oboe, Stephanie DeCroix on French horn, Kim Kucharski on flute, Michael Borjas on euphonium, and Mark Patton on alto sax.

The band will perform “Jingle Bells Fantasy” based on “Jingle Bells” by J. Pierpoint and arranged by John Wasson; “Ancient Carol Variants” based on “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” arranged by Chris M. Bernotas with soloists Brian Bushong on trumpet and Kim Kucharski on flute; and “Bugler’s Holiday” by Leroy Anderson and transcribed by Michael Edwards and featuring the trumpet section: Andrew Bogan, Brian Bushong, Sara Bushong, Doug Garrison, Gary Keller, Judy Mayo, Courtney McClintock, Kyle Rohrs, Jon Roode, Scott Sabin, and Lily Young.

“Fantasia on Greensleeves” by Ralph Vaughn Williams and arranged by Douglas E. Wagner, will be also be performed by the band and soloists include Michael Borjas on euphonium and Kim Kucharski on flute. The band will also play “Heaven and Nature Ring,” arranged by Patrick Roszell. And “O Come O Come Emmanuel,” arranged by Charles Mekealian with soloists Kim Kucharski on flute, Howard Williams on oboe, Teresa Disbrow on clarinet, Kathy Sanka on clarinet, Pat Williams on clarinet, Mark Patton on alto sax, Wendy Headley on tenor sax, Lynn Zuercher on bassoon, Karen Kelly on bass clarinet, Michael Borjas on euphonium and Andrew Kalmar on tuba.

BiG Band BG will also be playing “Snow Business,” which is an arrangement of both “Let it Snow” and “Winter Wonderland” by Big Band BG founding director William Lake. There will be an arrangement of the traditional carol “Good King Wenceslas” by Mike Collins-Dowden and “It’s the Holiday Season,” arranged by Roger Holmes.

The concert is free and open to the public. Due to construction, enter from Poe Road and follow the directions to parking on the northwest side of campus. Doors open at 3:30 p.m.
