BG Council member Jeff Dennis endorses Katelyn Elliott for council at-large race

As an at-large member of Bowling Green City Council, I’ve had the privilege of meeting and working closely with constituents in every corner of our city. Whether it’s from a young family or a longtime resident, I hear the same concerns time and again: access to safe, affordable housing, safer streets and sidewalks, quality schools, and a local government that is responsive and accessible for all residents. With these priorities in mind, I urge you to join me in supporting Katelyn Elliott for Bowling Green City Council At-Large.

Whether you’re a renter or a first-time homebuyer, most in our community understand that access to quality housing at an affordable rate can be a struggle. As a renter, a first-time homebuyer, and a homeowner on BG’s east side, Katelyn has experienced this struggle firsthand. Through her work with a number of community groups, regular attendance at council meetings, and frequent correspondence with city officials, she’s shown a commitment to thinking outside the box and identifying solutions that will help address this difficult and longstanding challenge.

When it comes to safer streets and sidewalks, Katelyn brings a unique and fresh perspective that would serve all BG residents well. As the parent of two young children, including one who uses a wheelchair, Katelyn understands that unsafe and inaccessible sidewalks are more than a slight inconvenience for many members of our community.

As a member of BG Families for Schools, I have a deep appreciation for Katelyn and her support for quality schools and the many benefits they bring our community. True to form, Katelyn was one of the first to roll up her sleeves and get to work. Her and her family joined our team on multiple occasions to go door-to-door and speak with voters directly about the importance of investing in our public schools and maintaining vital programs, extracurriculars, and the dozens of jobs that were at stake. These campaigns passed with the overwhelming support of our community thanks to the help of volunteers like her.

Last, but far from least, Katelyn and I share the belief that government works best when all residents feel informed, empowered, and engaged. She recognizes how difficult it can be for many – especially young parents – to attend public meetings and stay up-to- date on the issues facing our community. She hasn’t let that stop her. Not only does she faithfully attend public meetings, she recognized that it’s a challenge for others and successfully advocated on their behalf. Today, City Council’s legislative packets are available to all residents before the vote, not after. This same commitment to community engagement will guide her decisions on council and help make our legislative process more transparent and accessible for all Bowling Green residents.

On these and many other issues, Katelyn Elliott will bring a fresh perspective grounded in real-world experience that will help improve our community for current residents and future generations. She has demonstrated an eagerness to consider bold solutions aimed at tackling our biggest challenges and, when necessary, a willingness to challenge conventional wisdom on behalf of Bowling Green families. For these reasons,

I urge you to vote for Katelyn Elliott for BG City Council At-Large.
