BG DECA students excel at state Career Development Conference

The Bowling Green High School DECA program had 51 junior and senior students compete in March at DECA’s Career Development Conference in Columbus. The state competition included approximately 3,000 students from 200 high schools across the state. Twenty BGHS students were recognized on stage as top finalists in the competition, and they were presented with state medals.

BGHS had two teams qualify for the International Career Development Conference (ICDC), which will be held April 26t-29 in Orlando, Florida. For the second year in a row, Liam Triggs and Tessa Kirchner qualified for the ICDC competition, taking 3rd place in the Integrated Marketing Campaign – Product event. In addition, Dylan Krupp and Austin Lewis also qualified, taking 2nd place in the Sports and Entertainment Marketing Operations Research event. 

BGHS DECA also had several state Top 12 Finalists in their categories.

  • Lexie Bechstien, Carson Black, and Julia Strum in Business Solutions 
  • Ethan Smith in Professional Selling 
  • Nia Warman and Avery Jicha in the Buying and Merchandising event

DECA is an association of marketing students who participate in the organization’s competitive events program, allowing the students the opportunity to compete for local, state, and international titles. The competitions are designed to simulate real-life situations and test the students’ academic and occupational understanding and problem-solving skills. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in the fields of marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. The Bowling Green High School DECA program is a satellite marketing program of Penta Career Center.
